MAG DIMOND

If there is one thing that defines the jewelry that I make, I would have to say that it is travel to exotic, beautiful, and forgotten places. I have been a traveler all my life, from the time my mother took me to Italy in the mid-fifties when I was eleven. Not only have I been a traveler in fact, but also in my imagination, always. Throughout all this journeying, I have been looking at and collecting beautiful jewelry of all shapes and forms. My principal interest has been in the ancient, but I have also been drawn to unique modern forms in plastic, glass, as well as semi-precious stones. There has never been a question in my mind that jewelry is a serious art form, not just an “accessory” or decoration.
The making of my pieces involves different attitudes, I have found. With the ancient beads and artifacts, there is prayer, as I meditatively wait for the beads to show me the way, remind me of the mystery. With the modern, shiny, edgy materials, it is sheer play, as though I’m a child again, juggling beautiful colored toys and building blocks. And with the semi-precious stones, I feel as though I’m a painter, splashing sparkling colors together to create a rich mosaic.
It’s my fervent hope that those who buy and wear my necklaces will feel the love invested in them, and will listen for the stories that emanate from them. Be peaceful and happy….
