Welcome to the Private Taochan Lishi Bajiquan Study Site!

Taochan Lishi Bajiquan is a Chinese martial art. Taochan Shanren (Recluse Who Withdrew from Seclusion) taught it to Madam Lee Chih-Chang in China in 1928 during the historical Northern Expedition campaign.
The term “baji” can mean “in all directions.” As a martial art, it aims at fighting multiple attackers from all directions with a full range of techniques. The number eight also fits with Bajiquan’s use of the Eight Trigrams (Xiantian Bagua).

The Bajiquan website was created initially for review and ongoing practice during and after our Bajiquan seminars. Later, when in-person training is not offered, it was incorporated into my Ru Yi Studio website so those who wish to continue can benefit from these valuable materials. It was also intended for it to be an online community to stay connected as a special Bajiquan Family.

Organized by Bajiquan scholars and in the past, an annual membership dues supported website expenses. This inadvertently made it seem like a subscription with monetary exchange for goods delivered.  Therefore, I wish to clarify and emphasize, that this website is not something tangible that you can pay in exchange for certain promised results. It is not a quick “how-to” learning site. This is a place where we honor my mother’s legacy and my family tradition.

With this understanding, for those who wish to stay connected with the Bajiquan family, there is no monetary obligation or dues. But all forms of voluntary contributions and communication will be appreciated.
