Ru Yi, a Chinese phrase meaning "as your heart/mind wishes." It is a good luck charm shaped like a short scepter. The ancient Chinese used it for pointing the way and for protection. It is often given as a present for the prosperity of the recipient. It is the setting of Mani, one of the Seven Jewels which is always clean and bright, shedding a brilliant light on all surrounding objects. It is a symbol of Buddha, and is regarded as a sign of longevity.

Ru Yi Studio is located in the high desert of Northern New Mexico where the sacred mountains and forests protect the Rio Grand and Native Indian lands. In this land of enchantment, Ru Yi Studio offers a quiet sanctuary for those who wish to recapture the culture of ancient China and its healing art forms.

In 1997 I established Ru Yi Studio of Chinese Cultural Arts near Taos Mountain in northern New Mexico For me it is a place where east and west, old and new meet to cultivate and harmonize body and spirit. At Ru Yi Studio I share my Chinese heritage and training in brush calligraphy, Tai Ji/Qi Gong as healing meditation. My goal as an artist and teacher is to attain a balanced living practice. I enjoy the freedom to travel between tradition and the avant guard when the spirit moves me. In recent years I devoted some time to study Chinese Daoist calligraphic art forms. The healing aspects of this practice has greatly influenced my work.

In 2004 I traveled back to China to seek my roots. Since then I am leading study tours to China focusing on areas of language, history, ethnic and folk art, music and spiritual practices. Experiences from these journeys also made a great impact on my art and craft creations. So, welcome to Ru Yi Studio, or join us on our next trip to China. May the harmonious energy of east and west enhance your spirit and enrich your heart/mind.
