MEMORIES

2019 Taos Bajiquan Retreat

A respectful and peaceful memorial for Yuki Sasaki at Hokoji Zendo in Taos, New Mexico, during our fall 2019 Bajiquan Retreat. We sure missed dear Yuki who loved Taos and Bajiquan practice.

2017 Seminar Theme: One Stroke 一 劃
This was my 5th year collaborating with guest teacher Deng Ming Dao in Taos. We used a clear plexiglass panel to demonstrate calligraphic brush strokes for the characters: 永 Yong, everlasting/constancy,  精 Jing, essence,氣 Qi,
breath/energy, 神 Shen, spirit/mind. It visually  showed how Tai Ji forms should also flow in
One Stroke.

A Night at the movies with Director Lynn Hamrick
2013

Ru Yi Multicultural Studio sponsored and showed the award-winning movie "Chess Kids" in Taos.  Director Lynn Hamrick joined us in person to speak about her filming experience with the young players.  This re-released special edition included additional footage and personal interviews with the star players almost 20 years later.  It is a fascinating movie with so much humanity in the story and artistry of story telling than just the game of chess.

"Music from Turkey" with Latif Bolat
2012

Picture
Specializing in the ancient Turkish mystic-devotional music genre, Latif Bolat has been received with appreciation and enthusiasm throughout the world, as he provides a unique philosophy and approach to the performance of traditional music. By creating an intimate, almost "storytelling" atmosphere, he explains Turkish folk and mystic music and its sociopolitical and cultural elements. The performance both entertains and invites the audience to ponder questions such as how major sociopolitical factors influence culture and the art it produces.
