A long time ago in ancient China, the Jade Emperor who ruled the Heavens saw how difficult it was for the people on earth to manage their time and to get along with each other. He set up twelve months to make a year, which had four seasons. The people were very happy to have the spring for planting crops, summer for relaxing and enjoying nature, fall to harvest, and winter to prepare for another spring. But quite often, things didn’t go well. The people had quarrels and they often couldn’t remember the time and would be late in getting their chores done. So the Jade Emperor called on the celestial animals to come in front of him to receive instructions on how to help the people.
